CAM BASE CIRCLE

Know when to torque each rocker

Torque a rocker only when its lifter is on the cam lobe’s base circle.

A preset cylinder-group sequence can leave uncertainty with some cam profiles and engine positions. Rotate the engine by hand, watch the valve events and confirm the valve being torqued is fully closed with the lifter on the round, unloaded portion of the lobe.

BASE-CIRCLE CHECK

Confirm the cam position for each rocker before applying the 22 lb-ft torque value.

The complete guide will explain the full intake-closing/exhaust-opening method and how to verify pushrod seating before final torque.
